We have used Johnson’s for many years each spring to do our flowerbeds, potted annuals, and general work as needed each year. We have always been very pleased with the work that has been done. This year, Dennis designed and oversaw the construction of our paver steps in the front of our home.

My husband and I just wanted to put in a very special thank you for the incredible work that Dennis did on this job. The steps are absolutely beautiful, and we could not be more thrilled with Dennis’s design.

In addition, he worked very hard to get us on his schedule, even though he was kind of “thrust” into this job inadvertently when the original intended construction company backed out of the job at the last minute and dropped it in Dennis’s lap. We are so very glad that it happened the way it did, and we thank Dennis again for his expertise. We look forward to many years of working with Johnson’s.

Trees, Shrubs, Annuals & Perennials

Take a look around and you will notice those landscapes that are properly designed and implemented through the use of shade and ornamental trees. Both shade and ornamental trees provide shade to lower utility expenses during the growing season and as they lose their foliage in the late fall, allow the winter sun to warm your home or business. Shade trees, like Maples, Oaks, Ash to name a few, are available in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and fall colors. Crabapple, Ornamental Pear, River Birch, Redbud are considered ornamental trees that are placed by an entryway as a focal point or grouped on a berm planting, adding interest to your landscape with their flowers or their unique bark texture and fall color.

Conifers like Juniper, Cedar, Pine and others, when incorporated into your landscape can provide evergreen screening of an undesirable view and can protect your property from the cold winter conditions. They also provide habitat for birds and other wildlife.

The variety of shrubs to choose from when planning your landscape is virtually unlimited. Site considerations, things like sun and shade exposure, wet or dry areas, amount of growing area available and your personal tastes are the limiting factors. Evergreen shrubs are either broadleaf, i.e.; Boxwood, Euonymus, Holly, Nandina or conifer, what is typically thought of as an evergreen, Junipers, Mugo Pine, Globe Spruce are incorporated into designs to anchor foundation plantings or with the more unique selections, can be utilized as a focal point. Flowering shrubs are an important part of any landscape when their flowering season is utilized. There are flowering shrubs that will bloom at different time periods during the growing season from early spring like forsythia, viburnum, spirea to the summer flowering selections like spirea, althea, crapemyrtle. There can always be color in your landscape when flowering shrubs are utilized.

Annual color will complement a properly designed landscape that allows for seasonal color changes for year round color and enjoyment. When planted in the fall, Dutch bulbs, i.e.; tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, provide the first glimpse of spring as they begin to poke through the ground after a cold winter. Cold hardy pansies, when also planted in the fall, will brighten your winter landscape until the frigid winter temperatures arrive and then reawaken when the early spring warm temperatures return. Dutch bulbs and pansies, when planted in annual bedding areas, add to the early spring enjoyment of your landscape. As the season turns to spring, the installation of summer annuals will provide a consistent color throughout the summer until the first frost. Annual color can be used in pots on a porch, patio or entryway to create an inviting area for relaxing.

A colorful landscape utilizes not only flowering shrubs, evergreens and annuals, but perennials that once planted, will provide consistent color year after year. There are endless selections in perennials that will grow in a wide variety of conditions. Sun vs. shade, wet vs. dry. Considerations when planting perennials is the flowering length and timing of their flowering. Perennials will complement other flowering shrubs to make your landscape colorful and require low maintenance throughout the entire year.

When we ‘Create a Landscape That Lasts”, we develop a landscape that utilizes all types of plant material that does not require a tremendous amount of maintenance that adds value and enjoyment to your home or business.
