Ponds, Waterfalls, Pondless Waterfalls & Fountains

Whether it is a welcoming addition to an entryway or an enjoyable view from your home, a water feature, with its soothing sight and sound like that of a meandering stream or waterfall, will add beauty to any landscape setting.

One of the more enjoyable moments can be feeding fish in your garden pond. Your fish will become like one of the family and come to the water surface when you feed them. Water plants are beneficial for several reasons. One being they aid in balancing the water to reduce algae and also provide a cooling effect in the water during the summer months for your fish. It is not uncommon to see frogs, turtles and on occasion, even Mallard ducks, visit our pond. Water plants that flower like Water Lilies, Water Hyacinth, Pickerel, Water Iris, Lotus and others add color throughout the growing season.

Pondless water features are becoming more popular because they give you the sight and sound of moving water but do not have any open water. The water from the waterfall or stream simply disappears into a gravel basin then the water is recirculated. There is a minimal amount of maintenance associated with a pondless water feature. Making sure that the water level is maintained and removing the pump during the winter are the basic maintenance requirements. With the lack of fish and water plants, which requires moving water, a timer can be added to turn the pump on and off at specific times to conserve electricity.

Water features may seem to be a high maintenance addition and that it is one more thing to have to take care of, but with the pond products available now, maintaining a water feature is almost nonexistent. The development of high efficiency pumps to reduce electricity use, automatic fill valves to keep the water level maintained and skimmers, which work like a swimming pool skimmer, keep debris in an open water pond to a minimum.

Bubbling boulders, Basalt Stone Columns, decorative pots and fountains are other types of water features that compliment landscaping that are a good place to start to “get your feet wet” with a water feature. These types of features do not require a large area and work well in small courtyard settings.
