Patios & Walks
Natural stone, when utilized in its random size and shape or chopped and split into a pattern, blends well with the surrounding colors and textures of the environment. Sandstone is the type of stone that we recommend because it is a dense, hard stone that resists the flaking and breakage that some limestone is susceptible to. Colors generally are in the cream/buff tones to grey. Because of the natural edges of the stone, there will be gaps that are filled with polymeric sand that stabilizes the joints and prevents weed growth. It creates a finished appearance that will not wash out with rain or irrigation. One consideration with natural stone is that it will have some slight irregularities on the surface of the walk or patio.
With installation of either of these surfaces, a base of compacted gravel at least four inches deep is necessary to insure a solid foundation to create stability. A thin layer of fine sand on top of the gravel will compensate for the variation in thickness of either product during installation.
